Missing In Action...
Yes, I know I did say that I was going to go to SMC today but basically I had a better offer. Sorry to those that I said I would catch up with but I really need to concentrate on trails and longer distances right now. After a late night phone call I managed to get out to Quarry Rd this morning for a 6am start with some of the guys from Joggers. There was about 8 of us all up who are planning on doing the 6ft track and these regular training runs will now become part of my training regime.
I felt great this morning. Using the walk the big hills strategy and run the flat and downhills seemed to work really well. There was a group that started at Hornsby Heights and there was us who entered the track from Quarry Rd. Gee it felt great to back running trails again and pain free was even better.
The guys are all a lovely bunch and we chatted and laughed most of the way around. The run was a mixed bag of trail, steep climbs including alot of rock jumping, downhill, roadrunning and some walking : ) I loaded up my fuel belt for the trip and had 2 gels and 2 glucodin tablets along the way. It was great having the opportunity to refill the water bottles before the long steep 6k back to the car.
I had decided that this run will be a great base builder for the upcoming 6ft training and will give me something solid to work on. I was totally shattered at the end but recovered surprisingly well especially after 2 bowls of porridge and a strong coffee. I was ok up until the 25km point where we bid farewell to the Hornsby Heights guys then the last 6k just stripped me of anything that I had left. I was absolutely fried.
All up we completed about 30km in approx 3hrs 40mins. I am really glad I went along and I'm looking forward to the next one in two weeks time. Apparantly the guys mix things up a bit so it's not always that distance or the same track that we took today. I joined them on the hard day.
The rest and recovery plan is now in progress and I will venture out for a few slow run this week along with a couple of swims and maybe jump on the bike. I forgot to mention - I did 1.5hrs on the bike yesterday - HILLS!
Edit: I have just realised that I was in the company of an absolute running legend today - Awesome!

Nice run Nat. Good to see you are back to some serious training again. I think a third of the firld today were CR's in the 10/halfs.
It was really good to have you come along. thanks for the company, especially on those last long 6 k
Wow, that's a great run and so soon after your comeback. Hope to see you soon.
Nice to see you are back running well and injury free GG.
Wow I didn't know the name but looking at what he has done that is very impressive.
Wooohooo Nat - you've done Quarry Rd - fun aint it?
jeez nat - you don't muck around!!! great run buddy - one day i will have to get out to this quarry road... just for a baby sized long run though of course :)
Bloody nora, that's a nice return to long runs, good work!
Just don't get sucked into thinking you must do a hard and hilly 3hour+ run every weekend though Nat, which is all too easy to do...

Nice run Go Girl...hope your legs recovery quickly from that gruelling effort. Certainly looks like you will be in top form by the time 6Ft comes around.
A nice meaty run that one Nat ! I see your doing the Fat Ass on 1/1 as well. All good prep for that silly little race in March. Looking forward to watching your progress. :)
I was looking forward to catching up at SMC but seems you had a darn good excuse. Sounds like a great run! A few more of those under the belt and 6ft will be a walk in the park :-)
Well our 18k certainly whetted your appetite. A good step up to 30k. I'm sure you now know how to pace yourself...
6 foot beckons!
Yep very nice starter work for 6 foot...actually you could finish it on that alone i am sure!
Good work again

Sounds like a great group GG. The 'the walk the big hills strategy' is worth practising. It's a much used 6' technique.
well you've definitely made a half-decent comeback - huge kms Nat!
and what's with forgetting you did 1.5km on the bike?!? I thought that this may have been the first time it actually went outside? ;)
