Recovery Day - (The real one)

I'm so glad today is recovery day!

I woke up this morning feeling really sick. I have caught Go Baby's cold and after cleaning up his sick (yucky) at dinner time last night I think I have a touch of what ever it was that made him sick.

Had my first ride in the new car today. Haven't driven it yet. It seems so big!

Any way back on the program tomorrow. Back to the track for some 30 second speed work x 10. (Could be interesting) This will take me back to Little Ath's days.
I might take Go Dad down to the track with me and he can be the clock starter, stopper and technique corrector.

Recovery Day?

Today was supposed to be recovery day however, I have changed the program around a bit to fit in with my MS 8k on Sunday. I wasn't feeling too sore after the Interval training yesterday so I decided to go for a 10k mediun pace run mid morning. I must have been kidding myself though because not only were my legs sore after about 1k I also felt flat, with no energy at all.
I then realised after dropping the kids off to school, doing the washing blah.. blah.... blah...I had not had any breakfast this morning. So my planned 0900hrs run had turned into my 1030hrs run because of the domestic duties and I totally missed out on breakky!(Not the first time either)
Oh well, too late now! I trudged on, still felt terrible, kept on going, felt even worse, looked at the hill at the 7k mark and thought what the heck, give it a go girl!
So I did up the hill (slowly) and down the hill (slowly). On the home stretch about the 9k mark I started to get a bad stitch in my left side almost in my back.I took a few deep breaths then powered on home, stitch and all.It nearly killed me though.
The old guy at the end of the street thinks that I am some sort of crazy woman because I am always huffing and puffing at my worst when he sees me run past. He's always out there! A bit strange really. More on the street cheerleader later..............

Intervals

Yesterday's 1k intervals were very interesting. I felt so weird trying to run fast. It's as if my legs had forgotten what to do. Previous to taking up distance running I had only really ever concentrated on shorter faster distances and speeds. It was really strange not being able to gather up some speed really quickly.
So after a 10min warm up I lunged straight into the 1k splits with a 2 min standing break in between. I ended up doing 3 x 1k at moderate pace: (As Pat Carrolls program recommends)

4:44
4:48
4:11

I then finished with a 10 min slow jog cool down. Didn't feel too bad after but on the walk back to the car I did realise that I had some stretching to do as the calves were a little tight going up the hill.

Feeling Lost

Woke up this morning feeling really strange not going for usual Monday morning run. With Go Dad away I have to change my training routine. So that means that I will have to go running this afternoon before I pick up the Go Kids. I am going to the track today to do some 1k runs.(Speed work) I have downloaded Pat Carrolls half marathon training diary. It looks achievable on paper so I will give it a go.
I do feel that I have jumped into this half a little too soon however, I'm not going to worry myself about the time I finish in, I just want to get out there and experience the race and have a good time.
I have realised something else today, It is not easy to the kids ready for school, datcare etc.... on your own. Hurry up and come home Go Dad. We all miss you...

29th May 2005

I dropped Go Dad off at the airport yesterday afternoon as he is going to Queensland to pick up our new car. (Can't wait) Go Baby slept all of the way home, he was so tired from footy. Go Boy played Game Boy and we chatted about school stuff.
Woke up feeling a little sore from the run at Joggers yesterday, those hills were killers!
Spoke to GCR today and she is planning on doing the GC half. Yeah ok she talked me into it, I have registered and paid for the Gold Coast half now... No backing out. It's probably a little sooner than I had expected to be doing my first half but with a bit of planning and preparation it should go ok.. I hope!
Heaps of CR's will be there and a few from joggers as well. Sounds like it could be a great gathering. I'm really looking forward to it.
Off for a walk to the new park with the kids this afternoon.

28th May 2005

Nice chilly morning for Joggers this morning. I wasn't sure what to expect when I turned up as the course last week was not too hard. (except for me getting lost of course)

So this week it was course C which mean't nothing to me becauase they are all new and challenging in my eyes. After a short warm up we were off, I soon found out that there was a lot of hills on this course and hills are not my thing!
At least the short flat part gave me some time to recover slightly before the next hill.Anyway this continued throughout the entire 8km track and I really struggled up those last hills. (Almost walking)In the end I clocked in at 44;33 for course C.
A bit slower than last week but more hills to contend with.

I feel that the Joggers group have already contributed to my performance and motivation. Looking forward to some more training sessions with Joggers.(Congratulations to Angie for winning the Hills sports person of the year)

27th May 2005

After not going for my usual morning run today I decided to go when I got home from work instead. Go baby was having dinner at Day Care so I had about one hour to get a run in. Go home, got changed, set out for my run.

About half way through I looked down at my watch..oh no forgot to press start!! It didn't matter I kept running anyway, not a big deal really! Then I started to feel some chaffing about two minutes later. (At the end of the week I'm always out of my nice comfy bike pants that stop that horrible chaffing.) Two more minutes..something was in my sock wriggling around in my shoe....This is not turning out as I had planned!

So, I decided to stop and cut through the bushes, take my shoe off, stop my watch which I had not started anyway, and adjust my shorts! I decide it's time to head back up the street towards home. Given it up as a bad joke! I don't really know what was in my shoe but it was long and skinny and squirmy!

Go Boy and Go Dad had gone to footy training so I headed off with the pram to get Go Baby. I took his beanie a coat and a blanket as it was so cold outside now.

I love to see his (Go Baby's) big smile as I walk through the door. It's even funnier when he calls me "Daddy" all of the time. I think he can say "Mum" but he just prefers to call everyone Dad!

26th May 2005

My run yeaterday afternoon was not the best. Besides having to run on a lot of uneven surfaces I found the traffic really distracting. I didn't like having to stop at the lights even though they were intended to be a rest period between splits. Total run home 10k I think I will stick to my nice quiet track from now on, which means running at night or early in the morning.

Go Boy has footy training tonight with Go Dad. I can spend the afternoon with Go Baby...Looks like my run will be after 7pm.

25th May 2005

I had a really busy night last night and I felt really tired after my 10k. Go baby is so cute...He is trying really hard to talk and is such a little dooer......

Spent some time stretching with Go boy and decided that I would not run this morning! I will run home from work this afternoon instead!
I'm not too keen on this run as there a two sets of traffic lights to go through and I probably will have to wait a while to get across these intersections.
So... what I will do is use this to my advantage as it is about 1.5k between each set of lights. I will try some faster runs for about a 1k and use the stop at the lights as a recovery period. This is the plan, now let's see if it works....

24 May 2005

Reluctantly rolled out of bed this morning and threw on the running gear. Once outside realised how beautiful the sunrise was and I was glad that I had made the effort. Decided to try the longer slower run this morning focusing on 80% of MHR. Not surprised that I felt ok during this run as I went out pretty hard yesterday. Finished up having to find more road to run on as I wanted to do the full 60min run today. Found it hard to hold myself back on the down hill back home but managed ok. Not sure of the distance (about 10k I think) , I will have to measure it tonight. Go boy has swimming tonight, first time in new group so it should be interesting.
